Blackstock’s Collections

The Drawings of an Artistic Savant

Gregory L. Blackstock

Gregory Blackstock is an artist and an autistic savant. Using ink, pencil, marker and crayola, he creates wonderful, almost obsessive drawings that categorize everything from wasps to hats to emergency vehicles, to name a few.

Blackstock’s story is compelling. For 25 years he worked as a pot washer in Seattle, drawing only in his leisure time. In 2001, at the age of 58 he retired—not to putter about his garden, but to launch a new and successful career as an artist. Autistic individuals exhibit an inherent inability to share intimacy and intimate communication with others. Blackstock has combatted this disability through his art, meeting the challenge with amazing results.

For those interested in autism or art, Blackstock’s Collections is an inspirational story.

Gregory L. Blackstock is a retired Seattle pot washer. He is an autistic and artistic savant.
