Bird Songs
250 North American Birds in Song
Les Beletsky
with audio from Cornell Lab of Ornithology; foreword by Jon L. Dunn
A 2006 Books for Everybody Selection
Listen here to bird sounds
from the Macaulay Library
One in five adults
in North America is a birdwatcher or birder, and birdwatching is the fastest-growing outdoor activity.
This stunning new audio-inclusive package presents 250 of the most eye-catching and commonly seen
birds in North America, including the newly rediscovered Ivory-billed Woodpecker, as well as the Snow
Goose, the Marbled Murrelet and the Spotted Owl, in an elegant and accessible format that matches
songs and calls to bird.
The collection draws from the world-renowned Macauly Library at
the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, the major source of sound recordings for research, education,
conservation, the media and commercial products.
The sleek, built-in digital audio player
plays 250 striking songs and calls, each running 10 to 15 seconds, with a try-me feature that allows
users to hear songs at the point of discovery. Renowned bird biologist Les Beletsky provides a succinct
and captivating description of each of the birds profiled, with an emphasis on their distinctive songs.
Lavish full-colour illustrations accompany each account.
The foreword is written by renowned
natural historian Jon L. Dunn, an expert on the distribution and identification of North American birds
and the chief consultant for the National Geographic Field Guide to the Birds of North America
