The Garden at Night
Private Views of Public Edens
Linda Rutenberg
Capturing the haunting luminosity of plants and flowers at night, photographer Linda Rutenberg depicts 20 public and botanical gardens throughout North America in an entirely new and surprising way. From San Francisco to Brooklyn, Dallas to Orlando—and with four gardens in Canada—these 200 lush images reveal an astonishing world hidden in plain sight.
Intimate portraits of flowers and leaves seem to glow in the blackness, revealing a secret nighttime landscape of subtle yet vibrant beauty. Readers from all parts of the U.S. and Canada will find something to relate to in the distinctive vegetation of their regional gardens. The Canadian gardens are Butchart Gardens in Victoria, British Columbia; Montreal Botanical Gardens in Quebec; Reford Gardens in Grand-Metis, Quebec; and Royal Ontario Gardens in Burlington, Ontario.
With an introduction by Christopher Dewdney and a foreword by William Shatner, this lavish volume is perfect for art- and garden-lovers alike as well as photography book fans and collectors.
LINDA RUTENBERG was born in Montreal in 1952 and has a BFA in film and music and an MFA in photography from Concordia University. She has taught photography and worked as a freelance designer, photographer and instructor for 30 years. Her fine art has been exhibited internationally.
