Still There, Clare

Book One in the Clare series

Yvonne Prinz

Clare’s a normal kid who likes comics and root beer floats. Elsa is her best friend, which is weird because they’re total opposites: Clare slouches around in ripped jeans, Elsa doesn’t go anywhere without matching accessories. Oh, and Clare is a real, live human being. Elsa? Not so much.

And that’s okay, because Clare knows they’ll always be together. Sure she’s got other friends who share her nerdy love of sci-fi, but Elsa’s the only one who’s been there through everything. See, Clare invented Elsa when she was five. Twelve is a little old to have an imaginary friend. So, maybe it’s time to try life without Elsa. But will Elsa let her go?

The middle-grade and ’tween audience will fall in love with this funny and refreshing heroine. And Terry Wong’s amazing and unique cover illustrations are sure to stand out in the crowd.

The Georgia Straight hailed Still There, Clare, originally published by Raincoast in 2004, as “a just-right, heading-for-maturity story that deserves major attention.” This reissue of the IPPY nominee, Red Cedar Award nominee and Book Sense Pick features a brand-new look both inside and out.

YVONNE PRINZ (San Francisco) was born in Edmonton. Since 1989, she has lived in San Francisco, where she and her husband founded Amoeba Records, an indie music store chain. And yes, Yvonne still consults with her own imaginary friend on a regular basis.
