The Thrilling Life of Pauline de Lammermoor

Pauline, BTW: Book One

Edeet Ravel

A warm and funny snapshot of early teen life, unfiltered and uncensored, The Thrilling Life of Pauline de Lammermoor is the first book in the hilarious Pauline, btw series, written by Giller Prize finalist Edeet Ravel.

Almost-14-year-old Pauline Carelli-Bloom receives a book called You Too Can Write a Great Novel!—and immediately decides to do just that. Pauline follows the book’s advice and writes a novel based on her life that is full of friendship foibles, boyfriend troubles, parental antics and general angst. And, of course, pop-cultural references that Pauline’s readers will immediately recognize: Avril Lavigne, Friends and Canadian Idol Kalan, to name a few. Beneath Pauline’s account of her adventures and exploits lie more serious issues, including her parents’ divorce and her beloved teacher’s loss of a best friend to AIDS. All are expressed in ways that are honest, believable and revealing of the realities of teenage life.

“Pauline Carelli-Bloom, budding novelist, is not only charming, she’s also winning, captivating and irresistible!” (Susan Juby, author of Alice, I Think)

Edeet Ravel (Guelph, Ontario) was born on an Israeli kibbutz and grew up in Montreal. She is the author of four award-winning novels, including Ten Thousand Lovers, which was a finalist for the Governor General’s Award, and A Wall of Light, winner of the Canadian Jewish Book Award and a finalist for the Giller Prize and Canada/Caribbean Commonwealth Prize. Edeet also works as a peace activist and was a teacher for two decades.
