Off the Grid Homes

Case Studies for Sustainable Living

Lori Ryker

photographs by Audrey Hall

The follow-up volume to the successful Off the Grid: Modern Homes + Alternative Energy looks at six architectural projects that integrate alternative technologies for generating and conserving energy—allowing for “off-the-grid” living.

With this extensive resource, environmentally minded homeowners can research alternatives to being tied to the main line of municipal energy and resource. Independence can be through rainwater collection, photovoltaic (PV) systems and more. Diagrams and descriptions of technologies are provided alongside the book’s case studies.

Lori Ryker, MA, PhD, (Livingston, Montana) is the executive director of Artemis Institute, teaches at Montana State University’s School of Architecture and is a partner of Ryker/Nave Design. She also wrote Mockbee Coker: Thought and Process and Off the Grid: Modern Homes + Alternative Energy.
