Lindsay grew up on the New South Wales south coast, where beaches, boats and fishing influenced further study into conservation and marine biology. After completing a PhD on conservation genetics, he found his specialisation had emulated the giant panda and reduced his options. And by now the travel bug had well and truly bitten ? Blue Mountains bushwalks had been replaced with Himalayan treks; Tasmanian kelp forests with Mexican gray whales. After he published his research on metapopulations and conservation genetics of abalone in several international and Australian journals, there followed a short stint as a science editor. Lindsay then dropped the red pen only to pick it up again at Lonely Planet as a guidebook editor, using his background wherever possible to bolster Lonely Planet?s flora and fauna sections. There followed stints as Senior Editor and Publishing Manager of the Outdoor Activity Guides. When the redundancy broom swept through Lonely Planet he joined the author ranks, keen to return to the Indian subcontinent or the Aussie outback at any opportunity. His passions are the great outdoors and photography. As a Lonely Planet author he has contributed to Australia, East Coast Australia, Nepal, Northern Territory & Central Australia, Pakistan & the Karakoram Highway, Queensland & the Great Barrier Reef, South India, Sri Lanka and Thailand's Islands & Beaches. Lindsay lives in Melbourne with Jenny and their two kids, Patrick and Sinead, and Fergus the Lab.
