The latest in a magical chapter book series that transports early readers back to the most exciting points in Canadian history.
In Hurry, Freedom Emily and Matt find a bird's feather in the drawer labelled "Underground Railroad." They think the label refers to a real train, running underground. The actual destination is not what they expect once they land at the Canada-U.S. border in 1856. They quickly spring into action when they meet Canadian ornithologist and abolitionist Alexander Ross and the former slaves he's helping to escape to freedom.
The nail-biting action and real-life drama of this story will have readers feeling like they were there and rooting along with Matt and Emily for the fleeing slaves.
Ages 6-9.

Gordon Dean Griffiths (Victoria, B.C.) realized his love for drawing very early in life. At the age of 12, halfway through a comic book, Dean decided that he wanted to become a comic book artist and spent every spare minute of the next few years perfecting his art. In 1995 Dean illustrated his first children's book, The Patchwork House, written by Sally Fitz-Gibbon. Since then he has happily illustrated over 14 books for young people and is currently working on several more, including the Canadian Flyer series.
