Donna Nebenzahl and Nance Ackerman

Womankind began when writer Donna Nebenzahl and photographer Nance Ackerman became inspired by the work of women activists they knew. They decided to seek out women who were guiding similar initiatives around the world. An essay on each woman transports us into her world, offering words of advice, experience and hope. The accompanying photograph-reproduced in rich duotones-invites us to read a story in each face. Whether these women are world-renowned (Robin Morgan, Jody Williams or Nawal el Saadawi) or local heroes, all are justly celebrated.
